Real gotchas

**Contact list balloon**: Contact-based pricing means growth costs more. A brand that started at $29/mo can reach $200-350/mo within a year of steady list growth. Inactive contacts still count until manually deleted.
**Instagram policy shifts**: Meta occasionally tightens Instagram DM automation rules. Manychat's compliance updates lag by days to weeks. Accounts using aggressive keyword automation sometimes get warned or restricted.
**Overuse feels spammy**: Sending 5 promotional DMs a week to the same person kills engagement. Manychat gives you the tools to spam yourself into irrelevance.
**Free tier trap post-March 2026**: The 25-contact free cap makes the free tier useless for anything past a 3-day test. Business owners who signed up in 2024 got a much better free tier and remember it that way.
