Webflow

Visual web design and development platform with CMS

What it does

Webflow is a visual web design and CMS platform that outputs clean, hand-coded-quality HTML/CSS/JS. Designers get pixel control that Squarespace and Wix don't offer, plus a real CMS with collections and dynamic templates, plus native form handling, hosting, and staging. It's the tool for people who can design in Figma but don't want to hire a developer to ship it. Add on Webflow Ecommerce for storefronts, Webflow Optimize for A/B testing, and Logic for basic workflow automation. The output HTML is fast enough to score well on Core Web Vitals without a plugin battle.

Key features

Visual DesignerCMSHostingInteractionsE-commerceForms

Integrates with

Zapier, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, HubSpot

Who this fits

  • Agencies delivering client marketing sites who want to stop hand-coding
  • B2B SaaS marketing teams that need real design freedom without engineering tickets
  • Design-forward founders launching a landing page or brochure site
  • Consultants and freelance designers who want to keep clients on a platform they can manage
  • Med spas, boutique real estate teams, and premium services businesses where design credibility matters
  • Anyone whose Squarespace or Wix site looks like Squarespace or Wix and they hate it

Who it does NOT fit

  • High-volume ecommerce stores (Shopify wins on payments, apps, and shipping tools)
  • Blog-first content teams (WordPress still has the ecosystem for volume)
  • Users who want zero design decisions (Squarespace templates are more paint-by-number)
  • Enterprise marketing teams that need advanced personalization at scale (need something with a proper CDP)
  • Anyone allergic to a learning curve (this is designer-tier tooling)

Pricing

- Free Starter: 2 pages, webflow.io subdomain, testing only - Basic site plan: ~$14/mo, hosting, custom domain, 500 form submissions - CMS site plan: ~$23/mo, 2,000 CMS items, 1,000 form submissions - Business site plan: ~$39/mo, 10,000 CMS items, higher traffic, form file uploads - Enterprise: quote, SSO, advanced security, guaranteed uptime SLA - Workspace plans (per designer): Starter free, Core ~$19/mo, Growth ~$49/mo, Agency/Freelancer tiers separate Site plan and workspace plan are separate line items. Agencies pay for both.

Real gotchas

  • Site plan and workspace plan are separately billed
  • CMS item limits are hard caps. Blog with more than 2,000 posts on Basic will bite you
  • Ecommerce transaction fee is 2% on non-enterprise plans on top of Stripe fees
  • Client billing setup exists but agency workflows still feel like work
  • Localization (multi-language) is a paid add-on
  • Migrating off Webflow is painful. You export HTML/CSS but lose the CMS
  • Editor experience for content-only clients is fine, not great

Integrations that matter

Stripe, PayPal, Zapier, Make, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, GA4, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, Segment, Airtable, Memberstack, Outseta, Jetboost, Finsweet Attributes, Weglot, custom code embed.

Otto’s take on this tool

Recommend Webflow when: the user is a designer or agency, the pain_point is "our site looks like a template" or "we can't ship changes without a developer," and the business_size is 1-50. Best fit for marketing sites, portfolios, and B2B SaaS landing pages where design matters more than transaction volume. Pairs with HubSpot or Kit for lead capture, Stripe for one-off checkouts, Memberstack for gated content. Do NOT recommend for high-SKU ecommerce (Shopify), content-farm blogs (WordPress), or clients who need a $99/mo turnkey site with zero design input (Squarespace).

Editor's curated reviews

233 reviews across TrustPilot - avg 1.4/5

Curated by Otto from TrustPilot public reviews (fetched 2026-08-31). TrustPilot's Webflow sample is small (233 reviews) and skews heavily negative; G2 and Capterra show substantially higher aggregate scores for Webflow. TrustPilot is best read as a signal on pricing and support experience, not on the product itself. Not user-submitted on Ottomately.

  • Their system is complicated, their blog layout sucks, and they circle jerk 6 steps to get something to post is ridiculous.
  • My plan was recently increased from $35 to $46. The pricing is daylight robbery. The amount of corporate greed here is a disgrace.
  • The entire support system is an AI chatbot full of slop. They just raised prices while downgrading support.
  • My whole site runs using app gen. Recently they announced to discontinue the program, which is utterly insane.
  • In general I'm satisfied with this platform, already more than 10 years with it, for making strong designs.
  • This is the worst website builder I have ever built a website on. I ended up spending over 24 hours on a super simple template.
