Marketing & Funnels - Setup Guide
How to set up Unbounce
Otto's honest, no-fluff walkthrough. Every step here is what we'd actually do if we were sitting at your keyboard. Real gotchas first, real steps second, and a link to the personalized version at the bottom.
What you're signing up for
Easy for a single page from a template. Medium once you wire in conversion tracking, dynamic text replacement, and a real A/B test. Budget half a day to launch one page, a week to properly instrument
Read these before you start
- The subdomain you host pages on affects both SEO and tracking. Use a subdomain like `go.yourdomain.com` from day one
- Smart Traffic AI needs ~300 conversions before it beats a manual 50/50 split. It is not magic on low-volume campaigns
- Popups and sticky bars are per-page counted. Heavy overlay use eats your published-page allowance
- Visitor caps are strict. A traffic spike can push you into overage or the next plan tier mid-month
- Not a full CMS. Blog content and product pages belong elsewhere
- Form-submission alerts go to email by default. Wire the webhook straight into your CRM or a lead is going to sit in an inbox for 3 hours
The 7-step setup
- 1
Create your Unbounce account
Sign up at the link below. Card required for the paid tier - most plans include a trial period; check the pricing section on this page first so you know what you're committing to.
Open Unbounce signup - 2
Complete the initial onboarding
Skip the marketing questionnaires when you can. Fill only the fields that actually configure the product - name, timezone, your first workspace or project. If Unbounce pushes you into a setup wizard, take it - it usually accelerates the first productive session.
- 3
Connect your existing tools
Wire Unbounce into the rest of your stack. The integrations that most people set up first: Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp, Zapier, Make, Webhooks, Stripe, Calendly, Zoom, ActiveCampaign, Marketo.. Do these before importing data - clean integration first, data second.
- 4
Import your existing data (only what you'll actually use)
Do NOT bulk-import everything. Import the last 30 days of the ONE workflow you're moving over first. Prove it works. Then import more. Big-bang migrations are how Unbounce deployments die in month 3.
- 5
Set up your first real workflow
Pick the single most-frequent task you'll do in Unbounce - the daily-driver workflow. Configure it end-to-end. Use it live for a week. Do not touch any other feature yet. Adoption failure comes from teams trying to use everything on day one instead of the one thing that actually pays.
- 6
Add your team (if applicable) and set access
Once your solo workflow works, invite one teammate at a time. Watch them use it. The friction points you missed are the ones they hit. Fix those before scaling to more users. Never invite 20 people at once - you'll get 20 confused people and 0 useful feedback.
- 7
Compound with the right pairings
Recommend Unbounce when the user runs paid ads (Google or Meta), has budget over $2K/mo, and pain_points include "landing page conversion" / "A/B testing" / "faster page publishing" / "agency delivering pages for clients." Pairs naturally with Google Ads, Meta Ads, ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Calendly, and a call-tracking tool like CallRail. Do NOT recommend for organic-only businesses, ecommerce product pages, or teams with no ad spend to test against. If the user already ships pages fast in Webfl...
Pricing you'll hit
- Build: ~$99/mo, up to 20K unique visitors, 1 root domain, unlimited landing pages - Experiment: ~$149/mo, adds A/B testing and Smart Traffic AI - Optimize: ~$249/mo, adds AI copywriting, dynamic text replacement, higher visitor cap - Concierge: ~$649+/mo, agency plans with sub-accounts and higher volume 14-day free trial, no credit card required. Annual billing is roughly 25% cheaper.
