How to set up Suno

Otto's honest, no-fluff walkthrough. Every step here is what we'd actually do if we were sitting at your keyboard. Real gotchas first, real steps second, and a link to the personalized version at the bottom.

Read these before you start

• Credits do not roll over month to month, if you buy Premier and use 3,000 credits, you lose the other 7,000
• Commercial rights are strictly tier-locked, free-tier songs cannot be monetized on YouTube, TikTok, ads, or any commercial platform. Every song you generate while on Free is permanently non-commercial ([Suno commercial-use rules](https://musicmake.ai/blog/suno-ai-pricing-plans-2026))
• Copyright/IP legal landscape is still contested, Suno was sued by RIAA-affiliated labels in 2024, outcome unclear. Do not use Suno for high-visibility commercial releases without legal review
• Suno cannot reproduce specific artist voices or copyrighted songs (filtered)
• The AI does not know when to stop, prompting for a 30-second track can still get you a full 3-minute song
• Streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music) have shifting policies on AI-generated music distribution, some require disclosure, some are removing tracks

The 7-step setup

   Create your Suno account

   Sign up at the link below. Free tier available - no card required. Use your business email so you can invite teammates later.

   Open Suno signup

   Complete the initial onboarding

   Skip the marketing questionnaires when you can. Fill only the fields that actually configure the product - name, timezone, your first workspace or project. If Suno pushes you into a setup wizard, take it - it usually accelerates the first productive session.

   Connect your existing tools

   Wire Suno into the rest of your stack. The integrations that most people set up first: Web app, iOS/Android apps. Direct export to WAV/MP3. Stem separation in Suno Studio (Premier only). API access exists but is limited. No native DAW integration, no Ableton/Logic bridge, no Premiere or FCP integration.. Do these before importing data - clean integration first, data second.

   Import your existing data (only what you'll actually use)

   Do NOT bulk-import everything. Import the last 30 days of the ONE workflow you're moving over first. Prove it works. Then import more. Big-bang migrations are how Suno deployments die in month 3.

   Set up your first real workflow

   Pick the single most-frequent task you'll do in Suno - the daily-driver workflow. Configure it end-to-end. Use it live for a week. Do not touch any other feature yet. Adoption failure comes from teams trying to use everything on day one instead of the one thing that actually pays.

   Add your team (if applicable) and set access

   Once your solo workflow works, invite one teammate at a time. Watch them use it. The friction points you missed are the ones they hit. Fix those before scaling to more users. Never invite 20 people at once - you'll get 20 confused people and 0 useful feedback.

   Compound with the right pairings

   Recommend Suno when: user is a content creator (video, podcast, social) needing custom background music or jingles at pace. Recommend Pro ($10/mo) for anyone doing any commercial work, the Free tier is a demo. Highest fit for agencies producing custom local-business jingles, YouTube/TikTok creators, and podcasters.
