ShipStation

Shipping software for e-commerce order fulfillment

What it does

ShipStation pulls orders in from every sales channel you sell on (Shopify, Amazon, eBay, WooCommerce, BigCommerce) into one screen, lets you buy discounted shipping labels across multiple carriers, and automates the repetitive parts, batch label printing, automation rules ("if order is under 1lb and going to a US address, use USPS First Class"), branded tracking pages, and returns. It's the default answer for "how do I stop manually logging into UPS.com and FedEx.com every time I get an order."

Free tier

No

Starts at

$10/mo

Key features

Multi-carrier ShippingAutomation RulesBranded TrackingReturns

Integrates with

Shopify, Amazon, eBay, WooCommerce, BigCommerce

Who this fits

  • E-commerce sellers shipping physical product from 50 to a few thousand orders a month
  • Multi-channel sellers (Shopify + Amazon + eBay at once) who need one place to manage fulfillment
  • Small 3PLs and retailers who outgrew manually buying labels from carrier websites

Who it does NOT fit

  • Anyone not shipping physical goods, service businesses have no use for this at all
  • Very high-volume shippers (10,000+/month) who need dedicated 3PL software or a WMS, not a label tool
  • Sellers already locked into a carrier's own discounted rates through volume contracts, ShipStation's rates may not beat what you already negotiated

Pricing

Per tools.json and current site data: Starter $10/mo (50 shipments), Bronze $30/mo (500 shipments), Gold $100/mo (2,000 shipments), with a Standard tier and higher plans up to ~$350/mo for larger volume. Confirm exact tier boundaries on shipstation.com/pricing before quoting a client, ShipStation restructured pricing in mid-2025 and moved existing customers off legacy Silver/Bronze/Gold plans onto new tiers.

Real gotchas

  • ShipStation restructured its pricing in 2025 and existing customers reported large increases moving to the new plans, one Reddit user reported a jump from $45/month to $107/month (237%), another reported their cost would more than double (Source: Reddit user reports via WebSearch summary, 2026)
  • API access now requires a paywalled tier around $100/month, a real problem if you built custom integrations expecting API access to be included at lower tiers (Source: Reddit complaints re: ShipStation API paywall, WebSearch summary 2026)
  • Shipment limits are hard caps, going over triggers an automatic tier upgrade charge, not a grace period
  • Carrier rates shown are ShipStation's negotiated rates, they are usually good but not always better than what a seller can negotiate directly at high volume, worth comparing before assuming ShipStation is always cheapest

Integrations that matter

Shopify, Amazon, eBay, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, QuickBooks, Xero.

Otto’s take on this tool

Recommend ShipStation when the user sells physical product across 2+ channels and describes manual label-printing or fulfillment pain. It's the safe default recommendation for SMB e-commerce shipping. Flag the 2025 pricing restructure explicitly so the user isn't surprised by a quote that doesn't match an old blog post's numbers, and mention the API paywall if the user talks about wanting custom integrations. Do not recommend for non-physical-product businesses under any circumstance.

Editor's curated reviews

678 reviews across TrustPilot - avg 3.4/5

Curated by Otto from TrustPilot public reviews (fetched 2026-08-31). ShipStation's TrustPilot is bimodal (41% 5-star + 43% 1-star) with 678 reviews - reflects two experiences: users who lean on the support team love it, users hit by pricing changes and outage communication churn. G2 and Capterra were consulted for aggregate context but not directly cited here. Not user-submitted on Ottomately.

  • Thank you for your help, Josh! You fixed my issue very easily and quickly, really appreciate it!
  • ShipStation actually has a support phone number and they actually pick it up and you can speak with a human.
  • I am a consultant for order fulfillment for ecommerce sellers and shipstation is the best.
  • SHIPSTATION needs to be more proactive with outages. I wasted about an hour on my end trying to fix a problem that was on your end.
  • Does the basics - nothing more. The integrations that ShipStation claims to have with other platforms are hit or miss.
  • Our costs tripled in the last 12 months from what we originally signed up for...To go from $500 to $2,100 in spend per year.
  • Platform works if you need it to, but customer service not so much.
