PhantomBuster

LinkedIn and social media automation for lead generation

What it does

PhantomBuster automates LinkedIn (and Instagram, Twitter, Google Maps) outreach and data scraping, auto-connect requests, profile scraping, email finding, running from cloud servers on a schedule rather than your own browser. It's the go-to tool for lead-gen teams and recruiters who want LinkedIn prospecting at scale without manually clicking connect on hundreds of profiles.

Key features

Integrates with

LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, Google Maps, HubSpot

Who this fits

  • Sales and recruiting teams doing LinkedIn-based outbound prospecting at volume
  • Lead-gen agencies scraping and enriching contact data from LinkedIn, Google Maps, or other social platforms
  • Teams already accepting some tool-related account risk in exchange for outreach scale

Who it does NOT fit

  • Anyone who cannot afford to lose their LinkedIn account, this is a real and documented risk, not a hypothetical one, see gotchas below
  • Businesses in industries with strict outreach compliance requirements where an account suspension mid-campaign would be a serious operational problem
  • Teams wanting the "safest" LinkedIn automation option, PhantomBuster's cloud-based architecture is specifically why it's higher-risk than browser-based alternatives

Pricing

Per tools.json: Starter $56/mo (5 slots, 20h/mo execution), Pro $128/mo (15 slots, 80h/mo execution), Team $352/mo (50 slots, 300h/mo execution). Confirm current numbers at phantombuster.com/pricing.

Real gotchas

  • Because PhantomBuster runs automations from cloud servers using your LinkedIn session cookie, LinkedIn frequently sees a data-center IP that doesn't match your normal login location and behavior, a pattern LinkedIn's bot detection specifically targets (Source: WebSearch summary of user reports, 2026)
  • This automated connection/engagement behavior technically violates LinkedIn's terms of service prohibiting bots, users report both temporary restrictions and hard account bans, including a new user who scaled from near-zero to dozens of daily requests and got restricted almost immediately (Source: WebSearch summary of Reddit reports, 2026)
  • LinkedIn's enforcement is pattern-based, not counter-based, it looks for consistency and anomalies versus your historical behavior, meaning "staying under the safe daily number" is not actually a guarantee of safety, sudden ramp-ups get flagged regardless of raw volume
  • Reports from r/b2bmarketing describe colleagues getting banned specifically from cloud-based automation tools like this, this is a known risk pattern in the community, not an isolated incident

Otto’s take on this tool

Recommend PhantomBuster only when the client has explicitly accepted the account-risk tradeoff for outreach scale, and always disclose the ban risk in plain terms before recommending it, this is one of the tools where Otto's honesty is the actual differentiator versus an affiliate-farm site that just pushes the highest-commission option. Suggest starting with a very slow ramp (a handful of actions per day, increasing gradually) rather than immediately running at plan limits. For clients who cannot risk their LinkedIn account, do not recommend this tool, point them toward manual outreach or a native-browser-based alternative instead.

Editor's curated reviews

113 reviews across TrustPilot - avg 3.3/5

Curated by Otto from TrustPilot public reviews (fetched 2026-08-31). PhantomBuster's TrustPilot is bimodal (113 reviews, 52% 5-star and 34% 1-star at 3.3) - 5-stars praise the cloud-run set-and-forget model, 1-stars center on flaky LinkedIn phantoms, broken scrapers, and slow support. G2 and Capterra were consulted for aggregate context but not directly cited here (source-access limits). Not user-submitted on Ottomately.

  • The integrations just work, you sit and relax and everything works.
  • Really smooth great product, super easy onboarding compared to competitors.
  • I love that I can run PhantomBuster on the cloud and go to bed knowing I have ghosts running for me.
  • Good automation of some recurrent LinkedIn work. Unfortunately still a lot of my LinkedIn work is not implementable.
  • Tried it once, kept under their recommended daily limit, LinkedIn kicked me out and warned me.
  • Horrible support that takes days to respond. The Phantoms break all the time and the tool is super buggy.
  • The Instagram URL finder didn't work at all. It didn't identify correctly any of the 100 leads.
