Magical
AI-powered text expansion and auto-fill Chrome extension
What it does
Magical is a Chrome extension for text expansion, form auto-fill, and light browser automation. Type a shortcut like "//intro" and Magical expands it into a full email using variables pulled from the page you are on (a LinkedIn profile, a CRM record, a Gmail thread). It also lets you scrape structured data from any web page into a spreadsheet or CRM without writing selectors. The pitch is "kill the copy-paste tax." It runs entirely in the browser, no backend workflows.

Key features
Integrates with
Chrome, Gmail, LinkedIn, Salesforce, Zendesk
Who this fits
- Sales, recruiting, and support teams doing high-volume outreach or ticket work
- Recruiters sourcing on LinkedIn and pushing into ATS or CRM
- Agencies and consultants sending personalized-but-repetitive outreach
- Real estate agents templating buyer and seller messages
- Anyone spending 30+ minutes a day in Gmail, LinkedIn, or a browser-based CRM
Who it does NOT fit
- Teams that need server-side automation (webhooks, cron, backend triggers) - Zapier, Make, or Pipedream
- Field or trades teams working from a phone, not a laptop
- Enterprise orgs needing SOC 2 with strict data-loss controls; check the current compliance status
- Anyone on Safari or Firefox - Magical is Chrome-only in practice
Pricing
Real gotchas
- Chrome-only in real use. Firefox support has been intermittent per user reports on their community and Reddit r/sales; do not promise cross-browser
- Runs client-side, so shortcut expansion depends on the page's DOM. LinkedIn's frequent UI changes break Magical's variable pulls every few months, and users complain about broken selectors on the r/recruiting subreddit after each LinkedIn redesign
- No true CRM writeback for many tools - it fills the form, you still hit save
- Free tier is generous but AI features are gated to paid
- Data lives in the extension - if a laptop dies without sync enabled, the shortcuts are gone
- Enterprise IT sometimes blocks the extension by policy; get IT sign-off before recommending to a bigger team
Integrations that matter
Otto’s take on this tool
Recommend Magical when: the user does high-volume browser-based outreach or data entry (sales, recruiting, support), team is 1-50, and the workflow lives in a small number of web tools. Highest fit for recruiters and outbound sales. Pairs with a CRM (HubSpot, Close, Salesforce) and Gmail or Outlook. Do NOT recommend for backend automation (Zapier, Make, or Pipedream), for field or trades teams, or as a substitute for a real CRM. Flag that LinkedIn UI changes periodically break Magical selectors so users are not surprised.
