Productivity - Setup Guide

How to set up InVideo

Otto's honest, no-fluff walkthrough. Every step here is what we'd actually do if we were sitting at your keyboard. Real gotchas first, real steps second, and a link to the personalized version at the bottom.

What you're signing up for

Easy, roughly 10 minutes for basic setup.

Read these before you start

  • Unused credits do not roll over month to month, this is a real cost consideration worth walking the client through, don't let them buy a tier sized for peak usage if their real usage is lumpy, they'll lose the unused allocation every cycle (Source: user reviews via WebSearch summary, 2026)
  • Credits are consumed on generations that turn out unusable, and disputing a "failed" render that still deducted credits reportedly gets a slow support response, budget for some wasted credit spend as a normal cost of using the tool (Source: user reviews via WebSearch summary, 2026)
  • Quality ceiling is real, this is the right tool for volume/speed social content, not brand-critical video, set that expectation clearly before the client compares it to a professionally produced video
  • Sentiment is genuinely mixed, some users are happy, others cite billing issues, generic outputs, and overhyped marketing claims, don't oversell based on the vendor's own marketing copy

The 7-step setup

  1. 1

    Create your InVideo account

Sign up at the link below. Free tier available - no card required. Use your business email so you can invite teammates later.

    Open InVideo signup
  2. 2

    Complete the initial onboarding

Skip the marketing questionnaires when you can. Fill only the fields that actually configure the product - name, timezone, your first workspace or project. If InVideo pushes you into a setup wizard, take it - it usually accelerates the first productive session.

  3. 3

    Connect your existing tools

Wire InVideo into the rest of your stack. The integrations that most people set up first: Zapier, Google Drive.. Do these before importing data - clean integration first, data second.

  4. 4

Import your existing data (only what you'll actually use)

Do NOT bulk-import everything. Import the last 30 days of the ONE workflow you're moving over first. Prove it works. Then import more. Big-bang migrations are how InVideo deployments die in month 3.

  5. 5

Set up your first real workflow

Pick the single most-frequent task you'll do in InVideo - the daily-driver workflow. Configure it end-to-end. Use it live for a week. Do not touch any other feature yet. Adoption failure comes from teams trying to use everything on day one instead of the one thing that actually pays.

  6. 6

Add your team (if applicable) and set access

Once your solo workflow works, invite one teammate at a time. Watch them use it. The friction points you missed are the ones they hit. Fix those before scaling to more users. Never invite 20 people at once - you'll get 20 confused people and 0 useful feedback.

  7. 7

    Compound with the right pairings

Recommend InVideo for small businesses and agencies needing fast, regular social media video content where "good enough" beats "perfect," and set expectations clearly that this isn't a brand-video production tool. Warn the client that credits don't roll over and that failed generations still burn credits, size the plan to actual monthly usage rather than peak capacity. For brand-critical or customer-facing video, a human editor or a higher-end tool is the more honest recommendation.

Pricing you'll hit

Per tools.json: Free (watermarked exports), Plus ~$15/mo (no watermark, premium media), Max ~$30/mo (AI features, iStock media). Confirm current numbers at invideo.io/pricing.
