Productivity - Setup Guide
How to set up Elai.io
Otto's honest, no-fluff walkthrough. Every step here is what we'd actually do if we were sitting at your keyboard. Real gotchas first, real steps second, and a link to the personalized version at the bottom.
What you're signing up for
Easy, roughly 10 minutes for basic setup.
Read these before you start
- Lip-sync quality is language-dependent, strongest in English and common European languages, weaker elsewhere, confirm the client's target language before assuming consistent quality across markets (Source: user reviews via WebSearch summary, 2026)
- Avatar realism varies by presenter and script complexity, some feel natural, others stiff, particularly with emotional or gesture-heavy content, set expectations conservatively for anything beyond straightforward narration (Source: user reviews via WebSearch summary, 2026)
- Failed video renders are a reported issue on community discussions, similar to competitors in this space, budget for some wasted attempts (Source: user reports via WebSearch summary, 2026)
- Editing tools, transitions, and template library are described as basic, this is a narrow-purpose avatar tool, not a full video editor
The 7-step setup
- 1
Create your Elai.io account
Sign up at the link below. Free tier available - no card required. Use your business email so you can invite teammates later.
Open Elai.io signup - 2
Complete the initial onboarding
Skip the marketing questionnaires when you can. Fill only the fields that actually configure the product - name, timezone, your first workspace or project. If Elai.io pushes you into a setup wizard, take it - it usually accelerates the first productive session.
- 3
Connect your existing tools
Wire Elai.io into the rest of your stack. The integrations that most people set up first: PowerPoint (slides-to-video is a genuine differentiator), API.. Do these before importing data - clean integration first, data second.
- 4
Import your existing data (only what you'll actually use)
Do NOT bulk-import everything. Import the last 30 days of the ONE workflow you're moving over first. Prove it works. Then import more. Big-bang migrations are how Elai.io deployments die in month 3.
- 5
Set up your first real workflow
Pick the single most-frequent task you'll do in Elai.io - the daily-driver workflow. Configure it end-to-end. Use it live for a week. Do not touch any other feature yet. Adoption failure comes from teams trying to use everything on day one instead of the one thing that actually pays.
- 6
Add your team (if applicable) and set access
Once your solo workflow works, invite one teammate at a time. Watch them use it. The friction points you missed are the ones they hit. Fix those before scaling to more users. Never invite 20 people at once - you'll get 20 confused people and 0 useful feedback.
- 7
Compound with the right pairings
Recommend Elai.io for teams needing to quickly turn existing slide decks or scripts into narrated video, especially in English, and as a lower-cost alternative to D-ID or Colossyan worth comparing directly. Set expectations that avatar realism and lip-sync quality are inconsistent, especially outside English/European languages, and that this is a narrow tool, not a full editing suite. Compare directly against D-ID and Colossyan on the client's actual use case before choosing.
Pricing you'll hit
Per tools.json: Free (1 minute of video), Basic ~$23/mo (15 min/month), Advanced ~$80/mo (50 min/month). Confirm current numbers at elai.io/pricing.
