How to set up ChatGPT

Read these before you start

• No tier is truly unlimited — usage caps exist on every plan including paid ones, and they are dynamic (they shift by model, time of day, and system load) rather than a fixed, predictable monthly number. Don't promise a client "unlimited AI" on any ChatGPT tier (Source: Zenken AI, https://ai.zenken.co.jp/en/post/chatgpt-usage/)
• Hitting the message cap on the flagship model doesn't stop access — it silently downgrades to a lighter "mini" model until the cap resets, which can produce noticeably worse output without an obvious warning that a downgrade occurred
• The Team plan's main practical benefit over Plus is roughly double the usage allowance plus the "no training on company data" guarantee — for a business handling any sensitive client information, that data-training distinction between Plus and Team/Enterprise matters and should be confirmed before Plus is used for client work
• No affiliate/referral program — this is a value recommendation for Otto, not a revenue-generating one

The 7-step setup

   Create your ChatGPT account

   Sign up at the link below. Free tier available - no card required. Use your business email so you can invite teammates later.

   Complete the initial onboarding

   Skip the marketing questionnaires when you can. Fill only the fields that actually configure the product - name, timezone, your first workspace or project. If ChatGPT pushes you into a setup wizard, take it - it usually accelerates the first productive session.

   Connect your existing tools

   Wire ChatGPT into the rest of your stack. The integrations that most people set up first: API access (separate from the consumer subscription, billed differently), Zapier, Make, and it is often the reasoning engine underneath a large share of other AI tools on this list (Jasper, Copy.ai, and others are wrappers on top of GPT models).. Do these before importing data - clean integration first, data second.

   Import your existing data (only what you'll actually use)

   Do NOT bulk-import everything. Import the last 30 days of the ONE workflow you're moving over first. Prove it works. Then import more. Big-bang migrations are how ChatGPT deployments die in month 3.

   Set up your first real workflow

   Pick the single most-frequent task you'll do in ChatGPT - the daily-driver workflow. Configure it end-to-end. Use it live for a week. Do not touch any other feature yet. Adoption failure comes from teams trying to use everything on day one instead of the one thing that actually pays.

   Add your team (if applicable) and set access

   Once your solo workflow works, invite one teammate at a time. Watch them use it. The friction points you missed are the ones they hit. Fix those before scaling to more users. Never invite 20 people at once - you'll get 20 confused people and 0 useful feedback.

   Compound with the right pairings

   Recommend ChatGPT as a near-universal starting point for any business owner who writes, researches, or brainstorms, especially before recommending a paid wrapper tool (Jasper, Copy.ai) — confirm the base ChatGPT subscription doesn't already solve the need more cheaply first.
